Some would argue that it’s healthier than regular beef as the marbling is rich in omega-3 and omega-6, improving the ratio of monounsaturated fats compared with regular beef.

How do I cook boerewors?

You can barbecue, pan fry or put in the oven. To Barbecue - cook on low heat for approx 20 minutes, 10 minutes per side. Turn with tongs and do not pierce with fork during cooking as this releases much of the moisture in the sausage. To pan fry - use a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet, place the coil in a large skillet and allow your boerewors to cook on a low heat. Low heat will let the boerewors cook evenly while browning each side. Around 5 minutes each side for our thin boerewors and about 10 minutes per side for our thick boerewors. To oven bake - Heat the oven to about 175°C. Rub the outside of the boerewors with a light coating of vegetable oil or olive oil and place the coil of boerewors in an oven pan or dish. Allow it to cook for 20 minutes, allowing 10 minutes per side. Internal temperature should be 71°C
