How To Cook Boerewors in An Air Fryer

19th September 2025

Boerewors, the beloved South African sausage, is traditionally cooked over a braai (barbecue), but if you’re short on time or looking for a healthier option, the air fryer has your back.

Air fryers are quickly growing in popularity but given their recent expansion, there’s not exactly a traditional recipe but we’ve found a reliable method of getting good results out of your air fryer while keeping the meat as moist as possible.

Why Air Fry?

Air frying offers a healthier alternative to pan-frying or grilling, using less oil while still delivering a satisfying crisp outside. It’s quick, convenient, and ideal for busy weeknights.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (400°F).

  2. Place the Boerewors coil or segments into the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.

  3. Cook for 12–15 minutes, flipping the sausages halfway through to ensure they brown evenly on both sides.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye on them toward the end—air fryers can dry out the sausage slightly, so don’t overcook if you want to keep the juiciness intact.

This method gives you tasty Boerewors with less grease and all the flavour : no smoke or fuss required.
